ABOUT THE
PRESS
Taldorin Press is an independent editorial publication based in London, writing on the relationship between everyday mood and eating behaviour. The publication was founded on the observation that eating is rarely only about food.
Where the Publication Began
The idea for Taldorin Press emerged from a straightforward observation: the existing writing on food and eating was divided, broadly, into two camps. On one side stood the nutritional science literature — rigorous, valuable, but not written for general readers. On the other stood popular wellness writing — accessible, but frequently imprecise, often sensationalised, and rarely interested in the quiet, ordinary realities of how people actually eat.
The gap between these two bodies of writing is where Taldorin Press operates. The publication draws on published research in behavioural nutrition, but its primary register is observational and editorial rather than scientific. Articles are written by contributing editors and guest writers who bring a background in research, writing, or both, and who share an interest in the behavioural dimension of eating — particularly the role of mood, habit, and environment in shaping how and when people eat.
The publication focuses specifically on what its founding editors describe as the everyday dimension of food and mood connection: not the acute conditions at either end of the spectrum, but the ordinary Tuesday, the unremarkable weekend afternoon, the habitual snacking that fills the space between tasks. This is the terrain that the publication considers its subject matter.
What the Publication Covers
The observational study of when, where, and in what emotional context people eat. Articles cover boredom eating, habitual snacking, distracted eating, and the role of the eating environment.
The distinction between emotional hunger and physical hunger, recognising fullness cues, eating pace and awareness, and the practical use of food journalling as an observational tool.
The week-to-week rhythms of eating, weekend eating patterns, the impact of stress on food choices, comfort food habits, and the structural factors that shape routine eating behaviour.
Contributing Editors and Writers
Eleanor Whitfield is one of the publication's founding contributors. Her writing focuses on the behavioural and environmental dimensions of eating, drawing on published research in nutritional behaviour and personal observation. She has contributed extensively to the publication's Eating Behaviour and Eating Patterns series.
Tobias Ashcroft brings a background in behavioural research to his contributions at Taldorin Press. His writing addresses the psychological dimension of eating behaviour, with particular attention to the distinction between emotional hunger and physical hunger, and the role of mindful eating awareness in everyday life.
Jasper Linwood oversees the publication's research review process, ensuring that articles published in Taldorin Press are grounded in peer-reviewed sources and that claims are accurately represented. He coordinates the fact-checking workflow and maintains the publication's bibliography of referenced works.
Phoebe Marsden supports the publication's editorial workflow, coordinating the production schedule, managing correspondence with contributing writers, and assisting in the preparation of new articles for publication. She also maintains the publication's reading archive and research library.
